A study in the journal Emotion used online surveys to study the emotionality of liberal and conservative study participants. They found that participants who were more apathetic about climate change tended to be male, conservative and formally religious. Self-identified conservatives were also less emotionally responsive in general and had a reduced ability to consider issues from others' points of view.
An online survey reported in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology found that participants who reported having experienced a mystical state while on a psychedelic substance reported engaging in more pro-environmental behaviors and having higher levels of agreeableness and openness to experience. The latter two characteristics are considered major personality traits in the current study of personality.
Research in Public Health Nutrition found that adults who consumed the highest percentage of ultraprocessed foods in their usual diet were more likely to report mild depression and mentally unhealthy or anxious days than those who consumed the least ultraprocessed foods.
