Smoking Cessation

I have developed a 4-session program to help people stop smoking that utilizes behavior therapy, hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis. I have used it for over 20 years, and it has been successful with most clients who have completed the program.

Some clients have combined the program with nicotine replacement aids or medications, but many have quit successfully just by following the program. I have also applied it to tobacco chewing.

The initial session involves assessment of smoking and related behaviors so that I can make recommendations for behavior change that will make it easier to quit smoking permanently.

In the second session I explain hypnosis and conduct an introductory hypnotic induction to acquaint the client with hypnosis. I also teach a brief self-hypnosis method and explain principles of creating suggestions. The client is given audio recordings of these procedures for home listening.

The third session is the actual smoking quit date. I conduct a hypnotic induction specifically for smoking and the individual client and provide an audio recording of that induction.

The fourth session is a follow-up session to help with any difficulties the client is having with remaining tobacco-free.
